The UK has tightened corona rules for visitors to the country, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that all travellers to the UK will need to remain in quarantine until they receive a negative PCR test.

"We need to go further and implement a new testing system," he told a news conference in a hurry, hours after the first two cases of the new variant omicron were confirmed in the UK.

Currently all British and foreigners entering the UK have to take the PCR test the day after their arrival.

Strict measures have been taken in the new laws to prevent the spread of the new strain of coronavirus, under which the new laws will have to remain in quarantine until a negative result occurs.

Boris Johnson promised a review in the three weeks before Christmas, saying "I hope we will make sure we are in a strong position and we can lift these restrictions again."

"But right now it's a responsible process."

He indicated that no more lockdowns were being imposed in the country.

The British prime minister did not say when the new measures would take effect but said the mask's mandate would return.
